Organ Chorale Preludes
A Complete Hymn-Based Companion to A Catholic Book of Hymns
One chorale prelude for each of the 295 hymns for use in preparing and supporting congregational singing. These are mostly easy to medium difficulty on the manuals-- only three have very easy pedal parts.
These preludes are intended for liturgical use in direct relationship to the hymns sung by the congregation. Each prelude is intentionally composed to serve congregational singing by preparing, introducing, or reflecting upon the hymn melody sung by the assembly.
These preludes are not conceived as independent concert works. Their musical and liturgical purpose is fulfilled only when they are used in direct relationship to the hymns they support. By establishing melody, tempo, and character, they assist organists in leading confident and unified congregational song.
This book does not stand alone. It is designed to function as a companion volume, used alongside the hymnal it serves. Together, the hymnal and its supporting organ preludes form a coherent system in which congregational singing remains central, supported by organ music that is subordinate, functional, and pastoral in intent.
