I happened upon your publications last summer at a Summer Institute at Our Lady Seat of Wisdom College in Barry’s Bay, Ontario. The Institute was called “The Splendor of the Liturgy” and included a workshop on Gregorian Chant.

The choir director at the College was using The Little Catholic Choirbook and it looks perfect for our situation here. I showed it to our Choir director and he agreed. I also downloaded a copy of the Anthology 1. We were impressed by that too and will use it as a reference.

Many pieces in this collection are quite easy and fun to sing, while others may be more challenging to encourage excellence in your choir.

Some pieces are sung a cappella, but most pieces include accompaniments because many choirs find it difficult to find enough singers to sing all the parts. For example, music written for a double choir of eight voices can be sung by four voices and the second choir part played on an organ or by other instruments.

Our motivation for suggesting this is simple. When choir directors use this collection of pieces, and substitute instruments to strengthen the voices are surprised to have people from their congregation who sang that piece in College who want to join the choir.

Only have sopranos or sopranos and altos? They may sing with the organ filling in the missing parts.

You have to begin with great music to become a great choir.
