A Catholic Organist’s Book of Toccatas!

by Noel Jones

400 years of Toccatas

Many early organs did not have pedalboards so their toccatas are original music for manuals only and in some cases, just one manual!

Shorter pieces, they do not take as long to learn and may be played again and extended by merely changing the stops and starting over again at the beginning.

There is never any reason for easier music to sound boring!

In the middle era, there are toccatas that even can be played during Mass at the offertory and communion.

In more recent pieces you will have music with the grandeur of the sound of the organ that prove that we, as organists, are honored to PLAY THE KING OF INSTRUMENTS!
